Executive Sessions in MuniMins
MuniMins processes your entire recording, including executive sessions and closed portions of meetings. You control what appears in the final minutes.
Recording Executive Sessions
Keep recording through executive sessions. MuniMins will transcribe them like any other part of the meeting.
Editing Out Sensitive Content
After processing, when you review your minutes:
- Click Edit on the minutes.
- Delete or redact content from executive sessions that shouldn't be public (personnel matters, real estate negotiations, etc.).
- You can leave a note like "[Executive session discussion removed per state law]" if you want to indicate content was discussed.
- Save your changes.
What to Keep, What to Remove
The rules vary by state, but generally:
Keep: Votes taken in executive session, outcomes of decisions, approval of actions taken.
Remove: Specific details of personnel matters, strategy for pending litigation, real estate negotiations, personal information.
Consult your municipality's legal counsel if you're unsure what to redact.
Recording Notes
If you want to make notes about what was in an executive session without including details, you can add a line like: "Executive Session: [Topic] — [Outcome or action taken]"
